La Than Imperial Embroidery @ MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN
On March 28, 2009 the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) Education Department in New York City presented the artwork of La Than Imperial Embroidery. The program included the world’s finest embroidery art on view and featured a demonstration by master embroiderers from Viet Nam.
La Than Imperial Embroidery continues the centuries-old tradition of great Vietnamese embroiderers who drew inspiration from paintings by world-famous artists. The La Than Embroidery series, Photographs in Thread, reinvents this tradition by interpreting the works of renowned contemporary nature photographers. Each work of art is a large-scale, one-of-a-kind embroidery of unsurpassed quality. Using the finest cotton and silk threads, these master embroiderers dedicate a full year to each work.
La Than Imperial Embroidery founders, Lawrence A. Gooberman and Jennifer Ha Than, aspire to three goals: to preserve this revered Vietnamese art form, to foster international cooperation through collaborative artistic creation and to expose a broad audience to nature’s greatest wonders through embroidery.
